If you’re considering moving to or purchasing a property in Hollywood Beach, then it is important to consider the history of the area and learn more about how it came to be. Hollywood Beach is a highly sought-after place for those moving to the Florida area, but also for those looking for lucrative business investments to make. Everyone can benefit from having a home located in this area.
Located in Broward County, Florida, this beach town is home to 150,000 residents. Founded back in 1925, it has since grown rapidly to provide a home to so many that are looking for a beautiful, comfortable place to call home. Known as the twelfth largest city in Florida, it grew the most come the 1950’s and 1960’s and has since welcomed many people.
Joseph Young came to the South Florida area in 1920. He wanted to create his own dream city within this state. He wanted to add man-made lakes throughout the area that stretched along the ocean, while building railroads, houses, businesses, infrastructure that was beyond its time and more. He had dreams and he started them in Hollywood. He wanted the largest and the best school systems, parks, churches and golf courses of all the state.
He spent millions to bring the city up to speed and after doing so, was elected mayor in 1925. This area became very popular with people known as snowbirds. These people flee their northern homes in the winter to go south and then venture back to them come the warmer months.
In the 60’s the area was home to over 2,000 hotels to provide lodging for those that wanted to come and enjoy the ocean and the weather that Hollywood had to offer it’s visitors. While 12,000 newly constructed homes were put up to house those that were new and coming to live in the area permanently. A part of land right by the ocean purchased by Young is named “Hollywood by the Sea” which he didn’t want to get confused with the land he owned in New York known as “Hollywood in the Hills.”
However, in 1926 a hurricane swept through the area and it damaged Hollywood tremendously. Additionally, Young passed away in 1934 and was not able to restore the city to what he envisioned in his plans.
Still a beautiful area that has since been rebuilt and still home to thousands, it provides luxury properties along the beaches, while also providing single family homes to those that want to move to the area and enjoy the beaches and sea year-round. With plenty to offer, Hollywood Beach is a popular destination for so many.
